Pathways to a Healthy Kansas: Improvements in the Food Pantry

The Lighthouse is fortunate to be a recipient of the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant.

Here is some information about where we are at in the process!

A total of $25,000 is being used to:

  • Make physical improvements to the food pantry:
    • Hire a contractor to level the currently uneven floor so that neighbors and volunteers who come in to the pantry can walk safely
    • Paint the walls and ceiling in the pantry
  • Hire a food pantry manager to implement Healthy Eating Research (HER) guidelines:
    • In May 2026, April Lyon was hired as The Lighthouse Resource Manager, a new position created to support neighbors coming in for assistance and implement the HER guidelines in the pantry.
  • Purchase items that are needed to meet HER metrics and make the pantry a more efficient space
    • Tablet for entering and tracking data, purchased in June 2026
    • A food scale
    • Up-to-code Exit signs and a more functional cart for filling orders

We appreciate the support of the incredible team at Pathways to a Healthy Kansas for guiding us through this process, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) for funding these grants.
